The Calibre Omega 8800 Movement Has Set The Standard For Modern Movements
At the heart of every watch is it’s movement. Accuracy, reliability, dependability matters and that is what Omega reached for when they developed their in-house Calibre Omega 8800 Co-Axial Master Chronometer.
This new movement from Omega takes accuracy certifications one step beyond COSC with METAS. METAS is an extra certification test if they watch has already passed the COSC inspection. Not only does a watch need to pass 8 additional tests with more strict standards once, it has to pass the test TWICE!

Calibre Omega 8800 Accuracy
The Calibre Omega 8800 is Master Chronometer certified by METAS for the highest levels of accuracy. To achieve the Master Chronometer status, each movement is tested not once but twice to ensure its accuracy, precision, and reliability. Master Chronometer is an additional certification only designated for watches that have already met COSC standards. What Omega has done with the testing of each of their Calibre Omega 8800 movements is to provide complete transparency. As an owner of the Calibre 8800, you can now access through Omega’s website all the results of your individual 8800 movement.
What Is A Co-Axial Escapement?
One of the major upgrades in recent years to not only the Calibre Omega 8800 but all Omega’s movements is the introduction of the co-axial escapement. The benefit of a co-axial escapement is that it generates less friction which reduces the amount of energy needed to operate and improves the interval in which the watch needs to be serviced.
How Does The In-House Calibre Omega 8800 Movement Compare
The Calibre Omega 8800 movement compares very well to the other in-house calibres that it competes with. There is no doubt that this movement is an upgrade from the Rolex 3225 which is housed in the Submariner. What we see in the Calibre Omega 8800 is a power reserve that is on par with modern upgraded in-house movements, accuracy is top of the line, anti-magnetism can’t be beat at the price point it’s in, the calibre has a luxury finish, it doesn’t need to be serviced as often, and it’s built to handle a fair amount of shock absorption.
Overall the Calibre Omega 8800 is one of the best modern movements developed by one of the best watch making companies in the world. You can’t go wrong with this one.
