The experienced watch collector or watch aficionado understands that the love of watches isn’t just for the luxury timepieces. To a large degree most of these enthusiasts play to our most natural instinct, survival. What can one do to give themselves the best chance of coming out on top in any situation and what tools can help achieve that? For us watch guys the answer is simple, it’s a reliable tool watch.
Let’s be honest, most of us aren’t going to be in a survival situation any time soon and most likely won’t depend on our watches to keep us alive or navigate us around the world but it’s always fun to daydream. I think we all do it and I’ll admit it.
When I see a fun tool watch I imagine myself in a scenario where I actually NEED this precious timepiece and envision my success at using this instrument.
Well folks, if you’re like me and daydream about tool watches, I want to introduce you to one of the most serious lineups from a major watch manufacturer. Welcome to the Citizen Promaster Watch Collection.
What is the Citizen Promaster
The Citizen Promaster collection from Citizen Watches are their more rugged and specialized tool watch collection.
Citizen has done a stellar job with perfectly blending each model of the Citizen Promaster series with style and performance to give each model within the Promaster collection it’s unique set of strengths.
The Citizen Promaster watches can be divided into the following elements, Land, Air, & Sea. Each model and their variations include what a wearer needs to have within a quick glance.
What Movement Powers the Citizen Promaster
The Promaster series isn’t just about functions, it’s about reliability & accuracy too. Echo Drive movements are what powers all the Citizen Promaster watches.
Essentially the Echo Drive movement allows the watch to never need a battery. It does this by engineering solar cells on to the dial of the Citizen Promaster series to harness solar energy to charge the watch.
On a full charge most Echo Drive moments can store up to 6 months worth of charge and they can be charged by any light source.

My Experience with a Citizen Promaster
About 6 years ago I purchased my first Citizen Promaster, the Navihawk. I bought this watch knowing that it had more than I ever needed in a watch, it looked great, and it was going to be durable. In hindsight I was right about all three! I have found from my experience and from others that once you have a watch with so many features, you tend to find ways to use them in everyday life. That’s exactly what did.
Overall my experience with the Citizen Promaster Navihawk was excellent. It was a daily wear for almost a year. Eventually I decided to sell it because I wanted to wear more watches and to my surprise I sold the watch for almost what I paid for it. That’s astonishing considering that typically Citizen watches overall don’t retain the value much in the used market.
